Why This Bowl?
This is one of those bowls that feels like it should take way more effort than it actually does โ a sticky, savory-sweet glazed salmon, cold crunchy cucumber salad, and edamame all coming together in under 20 minutes. This Asian Salmon Bowl is quick enough for a weeknight, but flavorful enough that it doesn’t feel like a “rushed dinner” at all. I love how each part of the bowl plays a different role โ warm and caramelized, cold and crisp, salty and a little sweet โ so every bite feels a little different from the last.

The Secret to a Perfect Sear
Cutting the salmon into bite-sized pieces before cooking isn’t just for convenience โ it means more surface area gets that golden, slightly caramelized crust from the honey in the glaze. The key is not moving the pieces around too much while they cook, so each side gets a proper sear instead of just steaming in the marinade.

Why Sesame Oil Makes a Difference
A little sesame oil goes a long way here โ it brings that unmistakable nutty, toasty flavor that instantly makes a dish taste more “Asian-inspired” without needing a long list of specialty ingredients. It’s one of those small additions that punches way above its weight in terms of flavor.

A Naturally High-Protein, Balanced Bowl
Between the salmon and the edamame, this bowl is packed with protein without you having to think about it. Salmon brings healthy omega-3 fats into the mix too, so you’re getting a meal that’s satisfying and nutritionally solid, not just tasty.
Edamame adds even more to the mix โ it’s one of the few plant-based sources that offers a complete protein, along with a solid dose of fiber that helps keep you fuller for longer. Together with the salmon, you’re looking at a bowl that covers protein, healthy fats, and fiber all in one meal, which is exactly why this one keeps you satisfied instead of leaving you hungry an hour later.

Meal Prep Friendly
This bowl comes together fast, but it also holds up well if you want to prep parts of it ahead. Marinate the salmon a few hours early โ or even the night before โ so it soaks up even more of that sweet, savory flavor by the time you’re ready to cook.
The cucumber salad is another great make-ahead component; letting it sit in the fridge for a few hours actually improves it, since the flavors have more time to meld and it gets extra cold and crisp, exactly how I like it.
Even the edamame can be boiled ahead and kept in the fridge, so on a busy weeknight, all that’s really left to do is sear the salmon and put everything together. Or you can just prep it all ahead of time ๐

Customize Your Heat Level
This recipe is easy to adjust depending on how much spice you like โ the chili flakes in the glaze are optional, and the wasabi in the drizzle sauce is too, so you can build it up gradually and taste as you go rather than committing to one spice level from the start.

Asian Salmon Bowl๐
Ingredients
Method
- Prep the salmon: Remove the skin (lay it skin side down, place your hand on top for pressure, and slide your knife along to remove it). Cut the skinless salmon into bite-sized pieces.
- Marinate: Place the salmon into a medium bowl with the marinade โ soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, crushed garlic (1-2 cloves depending on how strong you like it), sesame oil, chili flakes (optional), and sesame seeds. Place in the fridge while you prep everything else.
- The edamame: Boil the edamame in boiling water โ enough to fully cover it โ for 3-4 minutes, then drain.
- Cucumber salad: While that boils, prepare my Asian Cucumber Salad โ sliced cucumbers, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, cane sugar, and sesame seeds. Place in the fridge (or set aside) until ready to serve โ I like mine cold.
- Make the drizzle sauce: Combine all the extra drizzle ingredients together.
- Cook the salmon: Heat up your pan on medium-high, then add the salmon along with all the marinade. Cook for approx. 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown on top.
- Assemble: Place the salmon into a bowl with the edamame, and the cucumber salad on the side. Drizzle with the extra sauce and enjoy ๐
